Weak public sector demand forces collapse of £22m furniture manufacturer Triumph

South Wales office furniture producer Triumph has gone into administration through insolvency firm FRP Advisory, who will try to find a buyer for the company as a going concern.
Lower demand from the public sector was cited for its failure. Triumph employs almost 300 staff at factories in Merthyr and Tredegar.
Administrator FRP has made 110 people redundant with immediate effect, but it hopes to save the remainder if it can find a buyer for the business. Triumph makes office furniture including desking and storage for both the public and private sectors. In the year to 2 May 2010 it made a pre-tax loss of £1.4m from sales of just under £22m.
