Furniture is star performer for Essex department stores; Double digit LFL sales rise
26th May 2009 | furniture | Chelmsford and Braintree department store group The Quadrant has seen furniture sales rocket in the past year, with like for like revenues jumping by 12.7%.
The retailer, part of the Chelmsford Star Co-op, sells furniture for the living, dining and bedrooms from suppliers including Tempur, Morris, Celebrity, Ercol and Hypnos.
Furniture has been the department store retailer’s best performing category over the past year, outscoring food and electricals, as well as rival furniture retailers.
Deputy chief executive Barry Wood said he was particularly pleased with the furniture results as they “compare with a market which is down some 10%."
Chelmsford Star’s turnover reached £64.3m overall – a 10% climb on the previous year.
