Furniture firm battles council after being issued with Enforcement Notice

11th November 2009 | independents | The owners of a 10,000sq ft furniture outlet in Cambridgeshire have vowed to take on the local council after being told to cease trading - two days after opening for business.

The Home, an outlet store in Littleport selling furniture and homeware, has set up a dedicated website (www.leavethehomealone.co.uk) to try and get local support to overturn the East Cambridgeshire District Council's ruling that the premises are being used in breach of planning permission which prevents retail use.

The company set up for business earlier this year as a wholesaler looking to deal with trade customers, but was swamped with consumers wanting to buy direct. The Home is located on Saxon Business Park in the Cambridgeshire town, and hopes an early 2010 appeal will go in its favour.
