TESCO PREPARES ‘ARGOS-STYLE’ TERMINALS IN-STORE IN MAJOR THREAT TO CATALOGUE RETAILER’S FURNITURE DOMINANCE
13th November | retail | Argos faces a large threat to its dominance of the value furniture market following Tesco’s decision to install self service terminals at its new Homeplus stores.
Tesco has made giant strides into the home sector with the launch of Tesco Direct, but the move into in-store sales could have a major impact on the success of its rival retailer.
The retail giant will also put in enlarged areas for stocking products so that consumers can collect them immediately. Tesco will roll out the terminals at its new Nottingham and Edinburgh stores after a successful trial in Bristol, but is yet to confirm if the terminals will eventually go into its grocery stores.
The move follows the hammer blow Argos received last week when its major flatpack furniture supplier, Meristem Holdings, went into administration.
