BFM partners London retailer to launch first 'Great British Furniture Store'

Quilters of Ruislip2nd November 2009 | retail | The British Furniture Manufacturers' Association has joined forces with a Ruislip furniture retailer to launch the UK's first 'Great British Furniture Store'.

North London retailer Quilters, an independent selling a host of UK trade brands, is backing the BFM's IT IS campaign, which aims to highlight UK manufactured product.

It hosted a dedicated store event on 30th October with an official opening attended by local MP Nick Hurd and former Hillingdon mayor Brian Crowe. The event was also attended by a number of UK furniture manufacturers.

The association has spent money promoting the IT IS campaign to consumers, as well as urging retailers to use affiliated point of purchase materials. It hopes other retailers will follow Quilters' lead by becoming 'Great British Furniture Stores.'

Quilters md Jon Quilter said that 87.5% of the goods it had sold during the past year had been British made, significantly more than the proportion of British made goods on the shop floor. 26% of those sales were made by IT IS campaign supporters.
