Police seize Polish upholstery being sold across the south of England
2nd March | upholstery | Non fire retardant sofas imported illegally from Poland have been seized from travelers’ sites in Essex. Trading standards officers and police claimed the upholstery after being tipped off about a consignment being delivered last week.
It is thought that the sofas, which fail Britain’s stringent fire safety regulations, are also being used to smuggle counterfeit cigarettes into the country.
Earlier this year, an investigation by the Echo newspaper in Essex claimed that up to a dozen suites a day were being sold to retailers across the south east by travelers from the Dale Farm site in Crays Hill. One Essex retailer has already been fined £10,000 following an earlier investigation.
