Northamptonshire independent fined for fire regulations breach

23rd June 2009 | legal | Two-store furniture retailer A6 Furniture Warehouses has been fined for selling non-compliant Chinese made sofas to the public.

The firm has been hit with a £2,000 bill and forced to recall 29 sofas following a Trading Standards investigation. The retailer will also have to pay costs of just over £1,000.

The firm pleaded guilty to one offence under the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988 and the Consumer Protection Act 1987. The sofas were among 42 pieces of furniture imported. The company has stores in Corby and Irthlingborough. Kettle Interiors is the firm's distribution arm.
