Marks & Spencer cuts furniture prices in Ireland by 12%

23rd June 2009 | retail | Variety retailer Marks & Spencer has introduced permanent price cuts across its furniture ranges in Ireland. The move follows similar reductions in other product categories.

The retailer has kicked off a marketing onslaught promoting the cuts using the strapline – ‘We’ve listened, we’ve lowered.’

Besides the weakening economy, Irish furniture retailers have also suffered from the low value of the pound against the Euro, with consumers thought to be crossing the border into Northern Ireland to take advantage of more attractive prices.

In the year to December 2008, furniture and lighting sales in Ireland dropped by 24%, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
