More woe for Land of Leather as it is found guilty of misleading consumers over price promotions
22nd May | promotion | Defunct upholstery retailer Land of Leather has been found guilty of misleading consumers by falsely claiming to be discounting its sofas.
Londonderry Magistrates Court ruled promotions promising savings of £1,000 were misleading, as they were based on a recommended retail price rather an actual previous selling price, and were not therefore genuine reductions.
Land of Leather, which has just two stores open at present for the purpose of fulfilling outstanding customer orders and stock clearance, will not face any further penalty after being issued with an absolute discharge.
The case was brought by Trading Standards and serves as a warning to other retailers over their pricing tactics. Furniture retailers have fallen under the spotlight in the past for artificially inflating the price of certain ranges in advance of heavily discounting them at a later date with an attractive headline promotional offer.
