Danish furniture retailer bids to go national with more stores
17th July 2009 | retail | Furniture and homeware retailer Jysk is expected to double its UK store numbers by this time next year. The Danish chain, which has four UK stores, all in the North and East Midlands, will roll out further shops in the early part of 2010.
The company, which reported a UK turnover of £1.1m in the five months to 31st August 2008, has stores in Blackburn, York, Lincoln and Mansfield. Worldwide, there are more than 1,500 stores, and the group has a turnover of 2bn euros.
To date, Jysk’s UK presence has been relatively low-key – with the retailer thought to be ironing out the correct store format for the UK. Ikea and Ilva are two other Scandinavian retailers to try the UK market with varying degrees of success.
