Department store John Lewis to launch dedicated Home stores

7th May 2009 | expansion | John Lewis plans to take its furniture offer beyond large towns by opening smaller format ‘supermarket size’ stores selling just homeware and electricals. The move will threaten furniture independents in smaller towns and cities unable to sustain a full-blown John Lewis department store.

The retailer will open its first dedicated Home store in Poole, Dorset. It will be just over 40,000sq ft in size, and is expected to carry about 70% of the retailer’s full home and electricals offer.

The retailer believes there is the potential to open around 30 stores across the country, in a mix of town centre and retail park sites.
