Furniture retailers agree sales commission in the name of charity
21st May 2009 | trading | A number of the UK’s top furniture retailers have signed up to pay a sales commission to charities, if consumers buy goods through a new online trading portal.
The website, called ibelongto.com, has attracted home retailers including Furniture Village and John Lewis as well as pureplay online traders Furniture123, Bedworld and Your Furniture.
The site encourages users to sign up to the website and then set up or join their own community or charity groups. When they subsequently visit a retailer’s website and complete a purchase, the retailer donates a percentage of the value of the sale to the charity/group the customer has chosen.
Furniture stores are offering up to 5% of the value of each sale to the good cause. Other home retailers to sign up to the scheme to date include Oak Furnitureland, House of Fraser, Topps Tiles, The White Company and general retailers such as Tesco and BHS.
