UK Residential flooring sales hurt Headlam as revenue drops 8.5%

20th May 2009 | Sales | Flooring wholesale group Headlam has reported an 8.5% fall in turnover to £168.4m in the first four months of the year. Domestic sales dropped by almost 12%, while the carpet and wood floor distributor’s mainland European operation saw a 7.7% sales uplift.

The group operates a host of regional and national flooring suppliers such as Mercado, Bailey’s Carpets, Faithfulls, Georgian Carpets and Crucial Trading, as well as being a backer of the generic Fun On The Floor carpet marketing campaign and owner of online trading portal yourfloors.

Commercial carpet sales in the UK outperformed its residential offering, with 8.4% and 11.8% drops respectively, while the group said it had seen an increased trend for customers to buy full rolls of residential carpets.
