Britain costs less than China; Upholstery firm switches production to South Wales

6th April | production | Upholstery supplier Handwriting is to switch production from China to Wales and relaunch next month. The firm, which was introduced at Mid-Point last year by Furniture Village co-founder David Imrie and former Ducal director Steve Parsons, will have its ranges manufactured under license by Aberdare firm Ashwood Designs.

The production switch will see lead times fall by almost half to 6-8 weeks as well as a ramped up range of Italian and Belgian fabric options. The prices of the sofas, which will be made to the exact same specification, will also be lower than before.

The range will be relaunched next month in Witney, Oxfordshire, where the firm will exhibit at cabinet firm Corndell’s At Home show. More trade outings are also planned, including Mid-Point in June, and at buying group AIS’ suppliers event.
