Sales fall 17% at leading Welsh furniture independent

 

29th October 2009 | independents | One of the UK's leading single store independents says its main focus is on cost control and cash management as it copes with the recession.

 

Hafren Furnishers, a destination independent operating out of a large 70,000sq ft showroom in mid-Wales saw turnover fall almost 17% to £5.12m in the year to the end of January.

 

Pre-tax profits fell to £96,252 from £377,428 last year, but remained higher than 2007 when its pre-tax return was £45,998.

 

The retailer, a member of the Minerva buying group, also paid £1.25m during the financial year to buy back the shares of director Malcolm De Bacq Rose, who has retired from the company.
