Habitat owners to explore sale options as it seeks to return to profitability

19th October 2009 | retail | The owners of loss making furniture chain Habitat are considering selling the company. The retailer, which made a £13.4m loss last year, is owned by the family of Swedish furniture giant Ikea.

The firm, which recently announced plans to open a store at the new Liverpool One shopping centre, has been among the few UK firms to put international expansion at the heart of its growth strategy, and has as many mainland European stores as it does in the UK.

Chief executive Mark Saunders said a sale was one of a number of options being explored as part of a strategic review.
