Calligaris sales rise in the UK and agent expects further growth this year

Phillip French, the UK agent for Italian furniture firm Calligaris, says he expects the company to continue to grow UK sales during 2009.  Callligaris, best known for its dining room ranges, achieved a 32% sales uplift in the UK during 2008.

Jenkins linked with Land of Leather move

Land of Leather chief executive Steve Jenkins has been linked with a move to buy the retail chain’s stores in the north of England. The 109 store sofa retailer has been in administration for more than a week, and Deloitte, the firm running the chain, says more than a dozen firm expressions of interet have been received. Former LoL boss Paul Briant is believed to be another name in the frame.

Symphony Group plans site move affecting workers

Fitted furniture firm Symphony is to offer redundancy packages to up to 100 workers who are unable to relocate when the firm moves from Leeds to an out of town site near Barnsley. The company currently employs 200 people at the site in Leeds, but many are thought unable to find transport to the semi-rural location. A 90 day consultation process has been initiated by the firm.
