Trading Standards clamp down on fire hazard sofas; 175 confiscated
7th April | safety | Furniture importer XRH has been fined £12,000 and told to stop selling potentially fatal sofas via the Internet trading website eBay.
Trading Standards officers in Northamptonshire have seized 175 pieces of furniture in the county following an investigation into upholstery that fails the UK’s fire safety regulations.
XRH was caught out after Trading Standards Officers bought a sofa from the website. The firm has also been found to have contravened the Trade Descriptions Act 1968, for selling a sofa that was not leather as described.
