Fewer furnishing failures in April; Third successive monthly fall

5th May | Insolvency | 54 furniture and homeware retailers have disappeared from UK high streets since the start of February. The failed firms are among 128 home furnishing businesses to have ceased trading in the past three months, but the number of companies going into liquidation appears to be falling.

39 businesses went in April, an improvement on the 43 in March and 46 in February. To date, December has proved to be the worst month for corporate insolvency in the home furnishings sector since the start of the downturn, with 56 firms going into liquidation. This compares with just 21 in September, when many believe sales figures started to take a turn for the worse.
