Carpetright drives home advantage over Allied with LFL sales uplift
5th August 2009 | flooring | Carpetright's UK and Irish sales grew 6.6% in the three months to 1st August with like for like trading up by 1.4% on the same period in 2008.
It is the firm’s first trading update since the details of the proposed closure of 150 rival Allied Carpets stores were released.
Chairman and chief executive Lord Harris said Allied’s problems presented an opportunity, but it was also driving forward plans to increase its insurance and housebuilder business.
Carpetright opened a net 14 stores during the 13 weeks to 1st August, but has recently said it is unlikely to take on stores shelved by Allied, as the new management team there had cherry picked the best sites following its pre-pack administration.
