Networking hub aims to put British design centre stage in Milan

8th April | design | The first overseas British Design Embassy will launch later this month in Milan. Curated by Paul Smith, the networking hub aims to showcase the best of British talent during the iSaloni series of international design events taking place from 22-26 April.

The Embassy will be located at the Modern Art Gallery in Milan’s Villa Reale, and is backed by UK Trade & Investment, which will support the launch by hosting a trade mission during the week of the Milan show. Other supporters include the British Consulate, Milan City Council, and Italian furniture manufacturer Moroso.

Sir Andrew Cahn, chief executive of UK Trade & Investment, said, ‘With world class designers such as Tom Dixon, Jasper Morrison and Ross Lovegrove, the UK remains at the forefront of the world’s furniture stage. Indeed, British furniture exports in 2007 totalled over £1.2bn.’

He said he hoped the British Design Embassy would ‘enable the next generation of UK talent to establish a foothold in this exciting market.’
