French cabinet firm ceases trading; No buyer found
20th May | cabinet | Brigitte Forestier has lost its long running battle for survival, the Furnishing Report understands. The bedroom and living room furniture manufacturer had been in difficulty for some time, but it had been hoped a buyer or investor could be found.
Stockists will be receiving notification from the firm’s UK agent, Tim Barber, in the next day or so after letters were sent out yesterday. He told the Furnishing Report that a court order came through on Wednesday and that the factory closed almost immediately.
He said they were trying to facilitate the delivery of goods currently in transit bound for the UK, but the transport firm wanted to know if was going to receive its money.
The UK was among the main destinations for the firm’s exports, which represented 80% of the manufacturer’s estimated £5m turnover.
One stockist, who received confirmation late last week, told the Furnishing Report that it ‘was terribly sad as the product was fantastic and practically irreplaceable.’
