Bed sales improve at John Lewis; Double digit furniture and carpets success in Newcastle
21st August 2009 | retail | Department store chain John Lewis says the long term negative trend in bed and bedroom furniture sales was reversed last week. The retailer said sales volumes in the product category showed a return to form compared to its weak performance throughout the past year.
Overall home sales across the group fell 3.6% on the same week in 2008, although stores in the north of England and Scotland made gains on last year's performance. The Newcastle store was mentioned for a double digit sales improvement in furniture and carpets.
Trade across all categories was 1.4% down and worth £46.5m.
