142 Allied Carpets stores close: No buyer found for stores as a going concern

14th August 2009 | flooring | Insolvency specialist BDO Stoy Hayward has closed 142 Allied Carpets stores, almost a month after the retailer went into administration.

The firm insists there is still a chance that some stores could be saved, and says some sites could even sold and subsequently used in a non-retail format.

Soon after the carpet chain called in the accountants, 51 stores were sold back to Allied Carpets Retail, which has also added a small number of stores since. Rival retailers including Carpetright and franchise retailer United Carpets have been linked with some of the sites, although it is thought Allied Carpets Retail has cherry picked the best stores.
